August Meeting Report

The August meeting was held on Tuesday, Aug 21 at the Rescue Squad. Pres Patti Throckmorton opened the meeting and after the introduction of the members and guests, she made an announcement that she is moving from the county and will have to resign as President of the Chamber. She passed the gavel to Nan Holt, who will move up to President. Sandra Moss thanked Patti for a job well-done and the group wished her well.

After the meal, a brief business session was held and then the speaker for the evening was introduced. Sgt First Class Howard Holt of Va Army National Guard, currently assigned as Operations Sgt for Hq 1st Battalion 116th Infantry in Lynchburg spoke to the group about the role of Small business and the National Guard. He shared what the employers obligations are and what the employee/soldiers obligations are. He also told us about the new uniforms and the functionality of the design.

The $50 speaker honorarium was made out to the 116th Family Support Team.

Howard is the son of Phil & Nan Holt!

2007 Buckingham's Best Grandparents

On Sunday, September 9th at the Annual Gospel Gala at Heritage Hall, the two winners of this years Best Grandparent's Contest were announced. This year we had 12 contestants. The entries were faxed to a facility in Roanoke where the staff read each one and chose the winners. Kenneth P Bryant is the 2007 Grandpa of the Year. His essay was submitted by his only grandchild, Casey Gunter.

Lizzie Jones is the 2007 Grandma of the Year. Her essay was submitted by her granddaughter, Ernestine Booker.

Both Grandparents received a nice rocker, a basket full of goodies & a plaque. Thanks to everyone who participated in the 15th annual Best Grandparents Contest!

House Tour

People are asking about: The 3rd Annual Christmas House Tour which will be on Sunday, Dec 2 from 5 to 8. Last year we traveled up to Manteo. This year we will be starting north of Dillwyn and traveling to Arvonia. We are looking for people who are willing to share their Christmas decorations with the community. So far we have a list of 13 names to contact in the next few weeks. If you know of any particular home, on any of the roads between North Dillwyn and Arvonia, please give us suggestions.

Slogan For The Website

Which do you prefer?

"Advancing Buckingham's Business Community" or
"Boosting Buckingham's Business Community"
(the latter was suggested because we originally were the Buckingham Business Boosters)
