May 2006April Meeting ReportThe Chamber met Tues, April 18 at the Rescue Squad Building with 30 members and guests present. Our meal was furnished by Courthouse Café and enjoyed by all. President, Marty Martin, shared the draft of the new county map. Hank Hagenau spoke on the discussion at the Old Dominion Resource & Development (RC & DC) meeting on the "Litter Gitter" program going on in Southwest Virginia and the hope that the Counties of Buckingham, Prince Edward, Cumberland, & the Town of Farmville could pursue the same. He also encouraged everyone to come out to the public hearing on Monday, April 24. Helen Saxon shared info on the upcoming April 22nd Clean-Up and Tire Disposal Day. Speaker for the evening was Dr Ken Perkins of Longwood University. He spoke to the group on Volunteerism. He spoke of healthy communities and the high degree of trust among the volunteer community. He shared that volunteerism, using Loudon County, Va as an example. When asked about encouraging people to volunteer, he suggested we look for motivation and specific tasks for volunteers. April 25th was chosen for a 2nd Clean-Up-The Squad-Building date Chamber Board MeetingJoe Williams, of the Woodchuck brought a 4- foot plywood version of Chamber Charlie for the Chamber to discuss. Patti Throckmorton volunteered to create a brochure on the Chamber that we can use at Buckingham County Day. The brochure will contain projects and opportunities that we offer our members. Also, there will be a list of organizations that we make donations to. 2006 Directoriesare finally out. Since the Squad is kind enough to allow us to use the building for meetings, we felt we should reciprocate!
