September Meeting Report

The Chamber met on Sept 20 at the Rescue Squad building with 25 present. VP Marty Martin called the meeting to order. Nan Holt gave the results of the Pet Contest. Sandra Moss gave the results of the Best Grandparents Contest. The new map will contain 40 ad listings.

After the meal and short business meeting, Marty introduced Ben Johnson, CPA of Farmville. He passed out tax information and spoke to us on various things to keep in mind as tax season approaches. The Chamber gives a donation to the speaker's charity of choice and Ben asked that his go to the Buckingham Rescue Squad.

Voter Turnout

November 8, 2005
Election Day!

Buckingham County has 8599 registered voters as of Oct 1, 2005. In the 2001 election 50.7% of the registered voters in Buckingham turned out to vote.

Please do what you can to see that your family, friends & neighbors vote. Absentee ballots will be accepted by mail by Nov 3rd and in person by Nov 5th. The Registrar's Office is always open on the 2 Saturdays prior to election.

This year the County Electoral Board hopes to have one of the new electronic voting machines in each precinct for people to see. These machines will be put into use in 2006 in the county.


Holiday House Tour

Plans for the 1st Annual Christmas House Tour are progressing. Eight homes are currently scheduled to be featured. (There are spots for 2 more homes). The Tour will be on Sunday, Dec 11 from 5pm until 8pm. Mark your calendar today!

Don't Miss The Farmers' Market
Friday, Oct 21st

Not only will the market feature produce, baked goods, soap & candles, AND the very first Tricycle Race will take place. Market hours are from 3:30 until 6:30. The Race is scheduled for 5PM. Buckingham County Sheriff Deputies will be racing against each other and may even take on a few "outsiders"! 50/50 tickets will be on sale and the proceeds will go to CrimeSolvers. Don't miss this first-time, fun-time event!


October Cook-Off

Each year in October the Chamber chooses a food category and members bring a dish to the Oct meeting. The Chamber supplies the beverages. Dishes are numbered and members cast their votes for the favorite. The member who made the winning dish gets a free Chamber membership for the coming year. This year you have more leeway than usual. Just bring your family's favorite potluck dish and let everyone enjoy!
