March 2005 NewsletterFebruary Meeting ReportPresident, Tony Martin welcomed guest speaker, Patrick Murphy, PE County Forester. Patrick spoke to us about the Farm Safety Day Camp to be held at the 5 County Fairgrounds for 8-15 year olds on April 2. Each of the 5 counties will have 40 spots for interested participants. Hank Hagenau gave an update on the Planning Commission and also shared that due to the poor response in sending back the 911 address cards, the county will have to pay to have calls made to residents who did not respond. When you or your staff does a transaction during the month of April, please thank each and every customer for not littering! Don't say, "Please don't litter"! Thank them in advance for not littering! This idea came to us from member, Marie Hill of Roger Hill Insurance & is surely worth a try. It will cost nothing ! So put a notice on your counter today. The Chamber will also feature this in the Spring Fling Ad & on billboards during the month. Farmers' MarketThe Farmers' Market, which is sponsored by the Chamber, is planning to open May 6th. Don't miss the market at the new location next to the Dillwyn Pharmacy. The market is an excellent opportunity for local bakers, crafters & growers to sell to the community. Family Fridays will continue with music, Cake Auction for CrimeSolvers & the Annual Pet Contest. Any interested vendor should contact Market Manager, Marty Martin at 983-5366. New County Map in Planning StagesIn conjunction with Historic Buckingham & Jamestown 2007, the Chamber is working on a 4-color map of the county that will contain Historic Sites, New Road Names & Road Numbers. The Jamestown 2007 group, under the leadership of Martha Louis has requested financial assistance for a portion of this project from the Board of Supervisors. OOPS!6000 copies of the 2005 Guidebook were printed with over 5000 going to all homes in the county & with the remainder being put in public offices for distribution. (Not 4000 as in last month's newsletter) Don't miss the March Chamber meeting ! Tuesday, March 15 @ the new Rescue Squad building.
