October 2004 NewsletterSeptember Meeting ReportPresident, Tony Martin on Sept 21st with 25 members & guests present, called the September meeting to order. After the meal, Sandra Moss gave a report on the Grandparent's Contest (see next column). Also new members, Ed Newman & Deanna Barshinger of Signs & Frames were introduced. With 4 renewals and the new members listed, our membership is back up to 167 members! Hank Hageneau gave the Planning Commission report and urged members to come out the Planning Commission meeting on Monday Sept 27. He reported that the 2 meetings held by Supervisor Bates at Toga & Glemore did offer clarification on some of the zoning issues before the Commission and the county. Todd Fortune, of the Piedmont District Planning Commission, gave a brief presentation on the Hazardous Mitigation Plan which each locality must have in place to qualify for FEMA funds in case of a natural disaster. Sandra Everson-Jones was present as a guest of Dr Anderson and spoke about the County Humane Society and the puppies & kittens program that is now in place. Bobby Jones, Supervisor was applauded for getting the signs into place for the Buckingham County Industrial Park. Carson Butwin, of Carson's Country Crops, was commended for winning blue ribbons at the Five Co Fair in the produce division and the flower division. Marty Martin gave an update on the 2004 Farmers Market. The meeting adjourned at 8pm. Buckingham's Best GrandparentsGrandparent's Day September 12, 2004 was a very special day for 2 of Buckingham's finest ! Eva Adcock was the happy recipient of the 14th annual Buckingham's Best Grandma Award. A large crowd of family & friends were on hand to hear the letter written by granddaughter, Lisa Moss of New Canton. Robert Hitt was pleased to be the 2004 choice for Buckingham's Best Grandpa Award. Robert's granddaughter, Taylor Franck of Mechanicsville wrote the winning essay and was accompanied by her sister to watch the proceedings. As usual, the Heritage Hall staff did a tremendous job with the music & the auction with all proceeds going to the Patient Aid Fund. NEW MEMBERSSigns & Frames Ray Yoder & Sons Construction, LLC Central Virginia Christian School Pet Contest won By Marlin18 pets came out with their owners to the annual Chamber Pet Contest. Each pet received a coupon for pet food from Buckingham Farm Supply. Winning the portrait by Nan Holt, Artist was Marlin the little pig. Marlin' s owner is Kristen Pettoni October Meeting Always a Treat!This year's Cook-Off Will be anything Italian ! Just bring your favorite dish - Pasta, pizza, spaghetti, etc We'll give everyone a number and a chance to vote on the favorite. The winner's dues will be marked paid for 2005.
