August 2004 NewsletterJuly Meeting ReportThe Chamber met on Tuesday, July 21 at the Children's Park Pavilion for the Annual Family Picnic with 45 present. Tony Martin & Duane Powers manned the grills and the attendees brought a great variety of food. No business was conducted, but Ms Marilyn Gillispie did thank the members that participated in the student program that she is in charge of. Grandparent's ContestWith so many deserving grandparents in our county, we want to make sure that the word gets out on Buckingham's Best Grandparents Contest. Encourage any grandchildren (of any age) to write a one-page essay on why their grandparent deserves to be chosen. Grandparent must be a resident of Buckingham. Grandparents Day will be on September 12 and the winner will be announced at 4pm during the Gospel Gala at Heritage Hall. Members DroppedEach year the Chamber is forced to drop a certain number of members. This happens for a variety of reasons, sometimes an entity will go out of business, sometimes it's just an oversight & sometimes they don't feel they are getting $35 worth of information from the organization. As with other things, you usually get out of something what you put into it. But just as a reminder, the Chamber affords you an annual directory with your listing of name, phone numbers, fax numbers, email & website. Also you're informed of new members/businesses that come into Buckingham. 11 monthly meetings a year with light meals (Ten at no cost.) A monthly newsletter, opportunities to advertise in the Guidebook & the Herald at a reduced rate are additional benefits. Then we have speakers such as the County Zoning Adm, A local CPA, Delegate Abbitt, Longwood Small Business Director, Heritage Hall Director, Sheriff Williams and Supervisors Jones & LeSueur. Also, you get the good PR of being involved in Buckingham's Best Grandparents Contest and the Annual Pet Contest, along with the Volunteer of the Year Award and the County Achievement Award. Hope this makes you feel great about your $35 investment! New Look for WebsiteBuckinghamchamber.org has a new look.
