October Meeting Report

The Chamber met on Oct 21, 2003 at the home of Sandra Moss, due to a change in scheduling at Heritage Hall. 18 members were present for the annual cook-off. This year the designated dish was a salad. After sampling each one, everyone voted by paper ballot. Nan Holt & Sandra Moss tied for 1st place. As usual it was fun & delicious!

Hank Hagenau contacted president, Tony Martin, to report that all county roads have been officially named & also to report that someone will be speaking to us in February on Birding Trails in Va. Joe Gemski will be inviting the Buckingham Dillwyn Garden Club to join us at that meeting.

Randy Martin gave a positive report on the Farmer’s Market that the Chamber sponsored. In spite of the fact that we began in mid-season & then encountered Isabel, it proved to be a good project. Plans are to start next year in mid-April with the grand opening being on Friday, April 30th with a fireworks display. We also hope to have music on some market days & also events for children.

Everyone in attendance received nomination forms for the Chamber's Annual Awards.

Helen Saxon nominated the Office of the County Administrator for the Community Pride Award with a request for county employee, Richard Booker to be included as one of the recipients.

Volunteer of the Year & Buckingham Achievement Award

Buckingham is filled with people who give back to our county on a regular basis & also many who have contributed much over the years. These are the people who need to be nominated for the Volunteer of the Year & The Buckingham Achievement Award. The window of opportunity to nominate will be from October 21st until November 21st. Get your form at the October Chamber meeting or pick one up at Moss Motor Co.

November 15th 9am until Noon Recycling at the Route 15 Site

Fundraising Plans!

Last year our first Silent Auction was a big success. This was held during our Annual Awards Banquet & proved to be lots of fun as well as a good fund-raiser for the Chamber. This year you will be getting a phone call from Tiffany of AtWork Personnel in Farmville. Tiffany will ask Chamber members for an auction item & also offer an opportunity to each member to sponsor the Awards Banquet by donating $100. So far we have 4 sponsors, All-American Publications, Bryant Waste Management, Dr Wes Saxon, DDS & Moss Motor Company. Sponsors will receive 2 free dinner tickets & recognition on the tickets & the flyers.

2004 Guidebooks

Dan Curren of All American Publications will contact all members, as he prepares the 2004 Guidebook. Dan has increased membership in the Chamber each year since he began the Guidebook in 1993. With the inclusion of the local phone book, this has become a regularly used tool for County homes & businesses. Put your products & services in front of your customers with an ad in the Guidebook.
