September Meeting Report

The Chamber met on September 16, 2003. Pizzas from Jenkins & salads were enjoyed. The group then divided into 4 work groups and wrote up suggested questions for the criteria for our Volunteer of the Year and our new award, The Buckingham Achievement Award. These questions will be compiled and made available at our October meeting. The questions are to make it easy for someone to nominate a worthy candidate & to give the Chamber a platform for judging the entries.

Hank Hagenau gave us information on the Planning Commission & also information on Birding Trails in Virginia, which is becoming a growing attraction.

Marty Martin gave an update on the Farmers' Market, which is attracting new vendors each week. She reminded us that civic organizations are allowed to hold Bake Sales, but should give the Market Manager advance notice.

Helen Saxon asked for volunteers for trash duty on Rt 60 & six people signed on.

Volunteer of the Year & Buckingham Achievement Award

Buckingham is filled with people who give back to our county on a regular basis & also many who have contributed much over the years. These are the people who need to be nominated for the Volunteer of the Year & The Buckingham Achievement Award. The window of opportunity to nominate will be from October 21st until November 21st. Get your form at the October Chamber meeting or pick one up at Moss Motor Co.

Izzy Throws the Farmers' Market for a Tizzy !

The number of vendors & shoppers was great until the infamous Isabel came along & then was followed the next Friday by more rain. The Market will continue through Friday, Oct 24th & then close for the year. The Market will re-open in early April 2004 with the Grand Opening & Fireworks display scheduled for April 30, 2004. Thanks to Marty Martin, Market Mgr & to Randy Martin for a job well done!

Don't Miss the October Chamber Meeting!

For the past several years, our October meeting has been one of the most enjoyable. We have our annual cook-off. We've had chili , we've had pasta & we've had dessert! Everyone gets to vote & the winner gets a free annual membership. This year it's going to be a salad!

Now let's be creative! We can fix congealed salads, we can have pasta salads, main dish salads & how about a dessert salad? Come join in the fun. We guarantee you will leave fat and happy!

Fundraising Plans!

Last year our first Silent Auction was a big success. This was held during our Annual Awards Banquet. In 2004 this fundraiser will be more important than ever, due to the cancellation of Heritage Day & expenses incurred during the year with the Market insurance expenses & donations we have made. Please consider what you have to offer for the auction and think of it as a way to assist without a lot of hard work. Thanks for all you do in Buckingham!

Only Two More Farmer's Markets this year. Hours are from 3:30pm until Dusk. October 17th & Oct 24th
