July Meeting Report

The Chamber met on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the Pavilion at the Childrens' Park on #1003 for the Annual Family Picnic.

The group enjoyed hamburgers & hot dogs prepared by Tony Martin, Ethan Abruzzo & Duane Powers. Covered dishes & desserts rounded out the meal. 38 people attended & no business was conducted.

Marilyn Gillispie of the Buckingham County School System spoke to us briefly on allowing certain students opportunities to work in our businesses.

MARKET REPORT

After 5 weeks, the Farmers' Market is successful! Fresh produce is available each week. Barbecue dinners, jams & jellies and flowers have been a hit. Good crowds are attending the Market each week. What we need now are more vendors. If you know of anyone with crafts or pies & cakes, please encourage them to contact Marty Martin, Market Manager at 983-5366. Congratulations Marty & Randy for a job well done!

Unfortunately the Chamber will not be renewing our participation in the Adopt-A-Highway program due to lack of assistance. We have attempted to keep 3 miles of the westbound lane of Rt 60 free of trash, but it has become increasingly difficult to get people to commit to the project.

Grand Opening!

The Farmers' Market will be holding a grand opening - tentative date Friday, Sept 6 At 6pm. We hope to have entertainment, local officials & something for the children. Watch the signboards & the Herald for the announcement.

Any grandchild of any age may enter their grandparent. The grandchild does not have to be a Buckingham resident, but the grandparent must be. Please enter each grandparent separately.
