June Meeting Report

The Chamber met on Tues, June 17, 2003 at Heritage Hall with 25 members present. The speaker for the evening was Del Watkins M. Abbitt, Jr. Del Abbitt spoke on various legislative items of interest to small business members. The meal for the evening was provided by Cactus Jax Restaurant of Arvonia. Dessert was provided by Joyce & Joe Williams of The Wood-chuck.

Business items included the Farmers' Market set to begin at the Buckingham Industrial Park on Friday, July 11th from 4pm until 7pm. The market will be for local vendors to sell produce, plants, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles and crafts. If an item is grown or made in Buckingham or an adjacent county, the Chamber would like to showcase it. The Market Manager is Marty Martin and she can be reached at 983-5366.

The market will continue through the last Friday in October. Motions were made and passed to purchase a set of scales for the market and to secure insurance for the $1,000,000 coverage required by the county.

July 21st through Aug 3rd will be Buckingham Chamber Days on WBNN. Members may get 2 ads for the price of 1. It is the members' responsibility to contact the station.

Carole Gathright shared info about the Town of Dillwyn Improvement Project. Hank Hageneau gave an update on the Planning Comm meetings.

Linda Marion, Adm of Heritage Hall shared that Meals on Wheels of Buckingham will be holding a community meeting on Tues, July 8 at 7pm at Heritage Hall. New members Kenny Riggleman of K& W Electrical Repair and his wife, Jennifer Bartlett of BeautiControl were present for their first meeting.

Annual Family Picnic

Mark your calendar for this Tuesday night! July 15th is the annual Chamber Family Picnic. No speaker, just food and fun! Bring your favorite dish (be sure to have something in it), your lawn chair & your family. The Chamber will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs & beverages. That's 6:30pm at the Pavilion at the Buckingham Childrens' Park on Rt 1003 behind the Dollar General.

Things are shaping up well for our newest project, the Farmers' Market, thanks to Market Manager, Marty Martin & husband, Randy. Please help out by encouraging any “growers” of fruits & vegetables to participate.

The Market is every Friday from 4 until 7 and this has the potential of being a great project!
