April Meeting Report

The Chamber met April 15, 2003 with 23 people present. Guests for the evening were Clarke Biel, Administrator and Mary Worthington, Development Director of Southside Community Hospital. Clarke shared with us some of his goals for SCH as well as information on the new privacy policies that have taken effect in all Virginia Hospitals. He conducted a question and answer session after his talk that was well received.

The recent Spring Fling ad was discussed. Also with the due date for the surveys falling on April 15 (meeting date), only 3 of the survey questions were discussed. See the remaining statistics below.

Two new members were present for the meeting. Eric Allen, Publisher of the Buckingham Beacon & Marien Ruiz of Crescent Tattoo & Gallery.

Hank Haganeau gave a Planning Commission report & again invited us to participate in the revising of the zoning regulations on the 4th Monday of the month.

Board of Directors Meeting 5/5/03

Motion made & passed to continue with the Volunteer of the Year Award & to add Business of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award & perhaps a Young Person of the Year.

The Board also voted to look into holding a Farmer's Market on Friday nights from 5 to 7. Based on the success of the Scottsville Farmer's Market, it would seem to be a positive project for the Chamber to pursue.

Dan Curren brought a recent map of Prince Edward with road names. The particular map met with approval and he will begin work on the Buckingham version as soon as all names are finalized.

It was decided that the Chamber would cook and sell hot dogs & hamburgers as a fundraiser during Heritage Night.
